Don't give up
Putting an end to child abuse will not be achieved overnight. It will take the concerted effort of individuals, communities, organisations, business and government acting together to make a difference to keep children safe. The most vital ingredient to preventing child abuse is to keep up your motivation. We cannot give up…it is far too important.

Help you local library develop resources for parents and children
Volunteer your time at the local library to help develop a special section about parenting and child development. Review books on parenting and assist the librarian to choose which resources are purchased. Find out about all the free resources on parenting and obtain copies for the library. Protect your child on the internet
Lots of parents are really worries about the ways that children might be exploited or abused through the internet. Talk to your children about the hazards of the internet. Give them simple guidelines to follow whenever they communicate with someone else over the internet. Install screening software on your computer which can block sites and prevent access to negative experiences for children. Encourage them to talk to you if they have any concerns or questions.
Become a foster carer
There are just not enough foster parents to support the number of children who need other families to live with. Most people can be a foster carer. You can offer to look after a child on weekends, for short periods or in the long term. You will support children and their families by volunteering your time. Raise the issue
Call or write to your local government councillor or state or federal member of parliament and let them know that you want them to resource child abuse prevention, intervention and treatment programs. Explain to them how strongly you feel about this issue. Discuss with them that you believe the safety and well being of children is a real priority for all levels of government.
